CAREER PATHS
Career Paths invites bassists to tell the story of how they built their careers, including the turning points, detours, and lessons along the way. This season's guests span a wide range of paths: Lizzie Burns on chamber music and freelancing, Andrea Beyer on teaching and non-profit leadership, Sarah Favinger on her work on Broadway musicals, and Caitlin Kamminga on building a multifaceted and versatile career. Each session ends with open Q&A, so attendees can ask the questions they've always wondered about.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Professional Development series focuses on the practical skills that turn strong playing into a sustainable career. Patricia Weitzel shares how to build a collegiate studio, Rachel Martin discusses audition preparation and her own audition journey, Gaelen McCormick tackles performance anxiety, and Hanna Wilson-Smith explores how to use social media professionally. Each session offers concrete tools attendees can put to use right away, with time for questions and discussion.
ADVOCACY
The Advocacy series explores how bassists can help build a safer, more welcoming, and more equitable musical community. Jemma Jones leads a conversation on creating safe music environments, Daphine Henderson moderates a panel centered on the experiences of women and nonbinary people of color in bass, Sue Cahill examines equitable orchestral audition practices, and we celebrate Women's History Month with our annual Women in Bass panel discussion. Sessions highlight real examples of advocacy in action and offer practical ways for students and professionals alike to get involved.
